Statement from Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) at Capitol Hill Information Session

“As you know, I sent a letter to the Director of Hong Kong Immigration Office.  In it, I requested that the Hong Kong government issue entry visas for these six members of Shen Yun Performing Arts to ensure the performances proceeded smoothly for their 7 scheduled performances in Hong Kong this week.

It’s very disappointing that Hong Kong didn’t grant the visas, which led to the cancellation of the shows. Nearly 8,000 people in Hong Kong had paid for tickets and were eagerly waiting to attend the performances only to be disappointed in the end.

What they missed was something extraordinary. I had the opportunity to attend the Shen Yun performance last week here in Washington, D.C. at the beautiful Kennedy Center.  The extraordinary performance was a celebration of music, dance, artistry, and moral courage.

I hope that the people of Hong Kong will be able to view this incredible display of Chinese culture in the near future, and I will continue to support Shen Yun’s efforts to present traditional Chinese culture to the world.”
