A summary of recorded cases of the Chinese Communist Party and its “diplomatic missions,” agents, and supporters trying to sabotage Shen Yun performances around the world. It comes a week after the premiere of the movie \"Unbroken: The untold story of Shen Yun.<\/a>\"

\nThe message, in Chinese, read: \"I strongly recommend that the film 'Unbroken' be removed from circulation. Failure to do so will result in the abduction\u2014followed by gang rape\u2014of all Falun Gong practitioners worldwide, as well as the children under the age of 12 of all Falun Gong supporters; these victims will then be taken to high-rise buildings across the globe and thrown to their deaths. Furthermore, terrorist attacks\u2014perpetrated by individuals posing as Falun Gong practitioners\u2014will occur in the United States, Canada, and Taiwan. Please think twice.\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Argentina, Buenos Aires<\/td>April 9-19, 2026<\/td>Dec. 13, 2025<\/td>A threat was emailed to Asociaci\u00f3n Civil Estudio de Falun Dafa, the presenter organization hosting the Shen Yun performances in Argentina: \"All theaters scheduled to host Shen Yun performances have been equipped with explosives and remote detonation devices. If you do not wish to be bombed, cancel all future Shen Yun performances within 24 hours and terminate your cooperation with Falun Gong! Then issue a public statement online stating that if the performances are not canceled within 24 hours, all the explosives will be detonated!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Argentina, Buenos Aires<\/td>April 9-19, 2026<\/td>Dec. 5, 2025<\/td>The websites Dang Dai and Clave China, which are associated with the CCP, re-published a statement by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina fully dedicated to attacking Shen Yun and Falun Gong. The statement's title is: \u201c\u2018Shen Yun\u2019 is a complete sham of sectarianism\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Argentina, Buenos Aires<\/td>April 9-19, 2026<\/td>Dec. 2025<\/td>According to a source working in the theater where Shen Yun is scheduled to perform, the cultural attache of the Chinese Embassy in Argentina tried (unsuccessfully) to pressure the CEO of the company that owns the theater to cancel the Shen Yun shows. The embassy staffed defamed Shen Yun and Falun Dafa and offered the CEO to bring shows from China to the theater. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Canada, Toronto<\/td>March 28-April 5, 2026<\/td>March 30, 2026<\/td>Having canceled the performance the previous day, Toronto's Four Seasons Centre received another email threat from the same address (pinmingyongshi92@gmail.com) and decided to go ahead and cancel all five remaining performances. \u201cNext time, I will enter the theater posing as an audience member; the moment Shen Yun begins its performance, I will open fire! I will throw bombs! I will set fires! Just you wait\u2014if you don't believe me, go ahead and put me to the test.\u201d <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Canada, Toronto<\/td>March 28-April 5, 2026<\/td>March 29, 2026<\/td>With audience members already in the theater (Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts) for a nearly sold-out performance, the theater received an emailed bomb threat, evacuated the theater and canceled the performance.

If you want it to explode, then keep performing Shen Yun. The future of Parliament Hill is up to you. Oh, of course, maybe you don't care. After all, you're not great Canadian citizens. If you don't care, then let it explode. Of course, I think I'll give you some time to think about it, like twelve hours. How about that?\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Wales, Swansea<\/td>March 24-26, 2026<\/td>March 23, 2026<\/td>The U.K. ticketing center received an email titled: \"Remote-controlled bombs have already been placed in Buckingham Palace!\" The email went on to read as follows: \u201cSeveral remote-controlled bombs have been planted throughout Buckingham Palace in the City of Westminster. As the Shen Yun performance begins, the bombs will be detonated. If you remain indifferent to the safety of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other high-ranking officials, then by all means\u2014carry on with the show.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Italy, Rome<\/td>March 17-19, 2026<\/td>March 17, 2026<\/td>An emailed threat was sent to Associazione culturale il Ponte, the organization hosting Shen Yun's performances in Rome: \"A bomb was planted in the theater; if the performance continues, an explosion is inevitable.\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Shen Yun HQ, New York<\/td><\/td>March 16, 2026<\/td>An email sent to the Shen Yun official website, impersonating prominent Canadian-Chinese dissident Sheng Xue, read as follows: \"Within the next two months, the Prime Ministers and high-ranking dignitaries\u2014including their family members\u2014of all nations that support Shen Yun will successively face grave danger! This is not a joke!\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Canada, Mississauga<\/td>March 14-17. 2026<\/td>March 15, 2026<\/td>Before the final of four shows in Mississauga's Living Arts Centre, the theater received an emailed bomb threat. Police was alerted and a thorough search was carried out, with no threat found, and the performance took place.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Australia, Melbourne<\/td>March 6-15, 2026<\/td>Feb. 22, 2026<\/td>An emailed threat similar to the ones sent to England, Wales, and Scotland was sent to the ticketing center for the Melbourne shows: \u201cA large quantity of nitroglycerin explosives has been placed at the Prime Minister's residence on Adelaide Avenue in Deeken, Canberra, Australia. If the Shen Yun performance proceeds anyway, the Prime Minister's residence will be reduced to a blood-soaked ruin. South Korea, Busan<\/td>Feb. 14-15, 2026<\/td>Feb. 15, 2026<\/td>On the second day of shows in Busan, South Korea, the ticketing center received the following emailed threat: \"Someone will be impersonating a Falun Gong practitioner and launching a terrorist attack in Seoul, South Korea soon. Just wait and see!\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
USA, Knoxville<\/td>Feb. 14-15, 2026<\/td>Feb. 14, 2026<\/td>On Valentine''s Day, the first day of Shen Yun's performances at Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum in Tennessee, the theater received the following email: \u201cFive bombs have been planted! If the Shen Yun performance is not canceled, the bombs will detonate! If you're not afraid of death, then continue the performance.\u201d The police was alerted, and a full sweep was carried out, finding nothing. The performance went on as scheduled.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Denmark, Copenhagen<\/td>March 30 - April 2, 2026<\/td>Feb. 10, 2026<\/td>Email threat to the Danish Prime Minister sent to the ticketing service: \u201cIf you don't care about the safety of Mette Frederiksen and all the Danish officials, then go ahead and put on your show. Whatever. If you can afford the price, I won't stop you. Just don\u2019t regret it later.\u201d

It doesn't matter as long as you can afford the consequences. I won't try to persuade you anymore; just don't regret it later.\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

South Korea, Busan<\/td>Feb. 14-15, 2026<\/td>Feb. 10, 2026<\/td>Four days before Shen Yun's opening night for the 2026 season in South Korea, Busan's Dream Theatre received a bomb threat email stating that \u201cthe venue will be blown up if the performance proceeds.\u201d The same day, an email was sent to the ticketing service: \u201cIf you don't care about the lives of Lee Jae Myung and all high-ranking South Korean officials, then keep performing. It doesn't matter, as long as you can afford the consequences.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Wales, Llandudno<\/td>Feb. 14-15, 2026<\/td>Feb. 9, 2026<\/td>Venue Cymru in Wales received the following emailed threat: \"Many nitroglycerin explosives and simple remote detonation devices have been placed! France, Tours<\/td>Feb. 13-15, 2026<\/td>Jan. 12, 2025<\/td>Cultural Service of the Embassy of China in Paris, France sent an email to the Palais des Congr\u00e8s de Tours theater, noting \"deep concern\" about the scheduled Shen Yun performances and offering to bring performing arts groups from China instead.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
USA, Richardson, TX<\/td>Feb. 10-11, 2026<\/td>Feb. 10, 2026<\/td>The ticketing center received a string of threat messages, including: \"We will detonate the ammonium nitrate explosives if a large quantity is placed at the White House and Mar-a-Lago while Shen Yun continues its performances! We will also drive cars into crowds and open fire on those fleeing the White House and Mar-a-Lago!\" and \"Many bombs have been placed at Reagan National Airport, the White House, the Pentagon, near the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Times Square, and other locations in New York and Washington, D.C. If the Shen Yun performance continues, the bombs will be detonated, and vehicles will be driven into people around the White House, and gunfire will be opened!\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Scotland, Edinburgh<\/td>Feb. 10-11, 2026<\/td>Feb. 5, 2026<\/td>An email impersonating a prominent Chinese dissident from the 1989 democracy movement threatened: \u201cMultiple nitroglycerin explosives and simple remote detonation devices have been placed! The explosives will detonate when the Shen Yun performance begins! If you truly want everyone to see God, continue the Shen Yun performance!\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
USA, Richardson, TX<\/td>Feb. 10-11, 2026<\/td>Jan. 27, 2026<\/td>A threat was sent through the ticketing center: \u201cA large number of ammonium nitrate-based explosives were placed in the White House. France, Rouen<\/td>Jan. 11-14, 2026<\/td>Jan. 9, 2026<\/td>According to a police report, a threatening email was sent to the ticketing company ahead of Shen Yun's performances in Rouen, France: \u201cIf you insist on having the Shen Yun performances, a terrorist attack will take place. I'm not joking.\u201d The email was accompanied by pictures of bullets. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Chinese Embassies worldwide<\/td><\/td>Jan. 2, 2026<\/td>Chinese embassies worldwide published new statements \"warning\" countries about Shen Yun, and calling Shen Yun and Falun Gong an \"anti-humanity, anti-society, anti-science evil-cult organization that has long been punished by the Chinese government according to law.\" The Sydney PRC consulate posted this notification on its social media accounts, immediately getting 16.9K likes. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
England, Birmingham<\/td>Jan. 2-4, 2026<\/td>Jan. 2, 2026<\/td>A bomb threat was sent to England's ICC Birmingham on the day of Shen Yun's first performance there: \u201cWe have planted a lot of plastic bombs; these bombs will explode in an hour.\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Taiwan, Taipei<\/td>Dec. 30, 2025 - Jan. 1, 2026<\/td>Dec. 30, 2026<\/td>On opening night of Shen Yun's shows in Taiwan, the Taipei Performing Arts Center received an email from a person claiming to be a reporter. This email, however, included no name, title, or affiliation, and went on to cite negative content about Shen Yun (including from CCP-affiliated organizations) and demand an explanation from the theater for why Shen Yun performances are allowed to take place. This email fits into a wider pattern of emails sent to theaters in the name of supposedly third-party organizations, such as journalist and human rights organizations. In all cases so far, however, the entities do not exist.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
France, Amn\u00e9ville<\/td>Dec. 18-21, 2025<\/td>Dec. 26, 2025<\/td>Yumin Pan, the Consul General of the PRC Consulate in Strasbourg, France sent a letter to the director of the Galaxie Theater in Amn\u00e9ville titled: \"Opposition to the performance organization Shen Yun.\" The letter, in French, stated that \"Shen Yun performances vilified the Chinese government by fabricating stories about the 'persecution' of practitioners.\" The Consul General concluded: \"I urge you not to allow them to be held indefinitely.\" (letter available upon request)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
England, Birmingham<\/td>Feb. 28-March 1, 2025<\/td>Dec. 21, 2025<\/td>Ahead of Shen Yun's shows at Birmingham's BJCC Concert Hall in England, the theater received a threat to the British Prime Minister's life should the show be allowed to take place: \u201cCancel the Shen Yun performance, or British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be shot from a distance!\u201d The threat was reported to the police an the PM's office. Metro: \" Chinese Communist Party \u2018threatened to shoot Keir Starmer\u2019 over Shen Yun dance troupe\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
France, Bordeaux<\/td>Dec. 27-31, 2025<\/td>Dec. 21, 2025<\/td>The Bordeaux Arkea Arena received the following emailed threat: \"If Shen Yun performances were to take place, staff members, including their families, would be in danger; they might be kidnapped or involved in car accidents! Of course, women would certainly be raped and murdered! Please consider this carefully.\" (police report available)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Czech Republic, Prague<\/td>April 17-19, 2026<\/td>Dec. 10, 2025<\/td>The Prague Congress Centre received a letter from a person and an organization that does not exist. The letter, supposedly sent from the \"European Council for International Women\" (a non-existent organization) by \"Katharina Bauer\" (there is no record of such a person working for a human rights organization, although there is an Olympic archer and another who is a pole vaulter!) asked the theater to cancel the Shen Yun shows based on supposed rights abuses of women. The theater wrote us an email forwarding the letter, saying: \"We assume that this is another attack on your show.\" <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Canada, Toronto<\/td>March 28-April 5, 2026<\/td>Dec. 6, 2025<\/td>\u201cIf Shen Yun dares to hold its performance in March, Justin Trudeau, Mark Carney, and everyone else will be in serious trouble, and there will be a massive explosion on Parliament Hill!!!\u201d - email received by Toronto's ticket processing center<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
USA, Dragon Springs, NY<\/td><\/td>Dec. 6, 2025<\/td>Threat emailed to Shen Yun Performing Arts headquarters: \u201cWe will buy tickets as an audience to enter the Shen Yun performance venue. If the Shen Yun performance starts, we will suddenly pull out guns and open fire on everyone, and throw petrol bombs and other explosives onto the stage! This is not a joke!\u201d<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
France, Amn\u00e9ville<\/td>Dec. 18-21, 2025<\/td>Dec. 6 2025<\/td>Galaxie Amn\u00e9ville, where Shen Yun was set to perform to launch the new season, received the following threat, identical to the one sent to Toru\u0144 the day before: \"Several remote-controlled bombs have been planted. If the Shen Yun performance is not canceled or a public statement is not issued by tomorrow afternoon, the bombs will explode!\"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Poland, Toru\u0144<\/td>Dec. 28-29, 2025<\/td>Dec. 5, 2025<\/td>About three weeks before opening night in Toru\u0144, Poland, the CKK Jordanki Concert Hall received the following threat: \"Several remote-controlled bombs have been planted. If the Shen Yun performance is not canceled or a public statement is not issued by tomorrow afternoon, the bombs will explode!\" The theater then also received additional emailed threats, targeting the family members of theater employees.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Argentina, Buenos Aires<\/td>April 19-20, 2025<\/td>April 11, 2025<\/td>A second bomb threat, also received through a chat on Argentina's Shen Yun website, was received (in Chinese): \"If you dare to show Shen Yun, we will infiltrate as if we were part of the audience. When the show starts, we will open fire on all the performers. We will throw Molotov cocktails!\" <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

We will infiltrate the audience on the day of the Shen Yun performance. When the performance begins, we will take out our weapons, shoot at the performers, and throw Molotov cocktails onto the stage. We will shoot anyone who tries to stop us. \"<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Canada, Vancouver<\/td>April 9-13, 2025<\/td>March 30, 2025<\/td>Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre, which a year ago received a bomb threat targeting Shen Yun, received another one this year, ten days ahead of opening night. \u201cWe have prepared Molotov cocktails and guns. We will enter as spectators on Shen Yun\u2019s performance day. If they Shen Yun performance starts, we will suddenly pull out our guns and shoot all the actors and throw Molotov cocktails towards the stage! Anyone who stops us will be targeted.\u201d <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Taiwan, Tainan City<\/td>April 11-12, 2025<\/td>March 20, 2025<\/td>Three weeks ahead of the Shen Yun performances at
\nTainan Cultural Center, the theater received the following bomb threat: \u201cI swear to Sun Yat-Sen! ! I have placed explosives in the Tainan Cultural Center Performing Arts Hall. It was cut halfway through the rubber, ensuring that the tire would not deflate right away but would burst under pressure at high speed on the freeway. According to the police report, the cut looked fresh. The bus had been under 24\/7 watch, but was taken to a garage for regular maintenance. The suspicion, as noted in the police report, is that someone followed the bus to the garage and made the incision in a moment when it wasn't being watched.

In January, two women from the PRC Consulate in Gdansk visited him, and the Consul General visited him again in February, asking him to cancel the contract with Shen Yun. Presenters have not been able to rent this theater as a result.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
South Korea<\/td>2023<\/td>2023<\/td>As in every year in recent memory, in every theater where Shen Yun performs in South Korea, there is a protest outside led by a woman named Wu Mingyu (she is the same one who instigated a civil lawsuit blocking Shen Yun from performing in Seoul). The protests are professionally organized and set up, with a consistent number of individuals, commercially produced displays and signs. This year, they applied for permits and carried out protests in front of every theater's entrance. They also printed a full-page ad attacking Shen Yun and Falun Gong in The Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's biggest and oldest daily paper (rough estimated cost is $9,850 USD). Three of the individuals involved in this group had previously attempted a protest on the balcony of the Seoul National Theater of Korea - they had snuck in during intermission and set up their protest with banners before being removed by theater personnel.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
South Korea, Gumi<\/td>Feb. 8, 2023<\/td>2023<\/td>In Gumi, where two performances were held at the Gumi Arts Center Grand Hall, the Chinese Consulate in Busan directly called the Gumi city government warning the city not to allow the venue to be rented to Shen Yun, and also sent a letter.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Dominican Republic, Santiago<\/td>Feb. 6-7, 2023<\/td>2023<\/td>The Chinese Embassy contacted the manager of the Grand Theater of Cibao in Santiago, offering him a monetary bribe and promises of future investments. The Embassy also slandered Shen Yun and Falun Dafa. The manager then wrote a letter to the presenter, Asociaci\u00f3n Falun Dafa de la Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, saying that due to theater renovations, Shen Yun's two performances in Santiago will need to be canceled. The presenter then reported this to the Ministry of Culture, and the Minister directly stated that the shows will not be canceled. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo<\/td>Feb. 2-4, 2023<\/td>2023<\/td>The Chinese Embassy contacted the theater managers in both Santo Domingo (Eduardo Brito National Theater) and Santiago (Grand Theater of Cibao), as well as the Ministry of Culture, trying to get Shen Yun's shows canceled. The Embassy then scheduled a meeting with the Office of the President to try to get a cancellation, but were unsuccessful. The president replied that the contracts were already signed and there was no way to nullify them. The Embassy then began contacting a range of influential individuals - legislators, ministers, media. The Embassy wrote them letters seeking their help to cancel the performances. These efforts did not lead to any results. Finally, the Embassy chased after the president<\/a> at the airport trying to get him to cancel the shows, but all failed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
South Korea, Busan<\/td>Feb. 2-5, 2023<\/td>2023<\/td>In Busan, presenters signed a contract to perform at Sohyang Theater, which belongs to Dongseo University. Dongseo University has close cooperation with Chinese universities and has a Confucius Institute. About two months after signing the contract, the PRC side \"expressed regret\" to the university that the performances were scheduled and asked that they be canceled. At the time, Dongseo University then canceled the contract. The local presenters took the case to court to block the cancellation. The presenters won the case, and only then learned that Dongseo University had been consulting the Chinese Embassy about whether or not to allow Shen Yun to perform.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The local city council later launched an investigation into whether the cancelation was due to pressure from Beijing, as alleged.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

After investigation, it appears that her status had been mysteriously changed in the system. Only days prior, her father, who had been jailed as a prisoner of conscience in China for 12 years and recently arrived in the US, made a trip to Washington to talk about the persecution he experienced. The travel document cancelation took place one day after his story was published online on a Chinese dissident blog.

\nThe Chinese embassy directly contacted the Opera House manager to request the show\u2019s cancellation. The embassy also exerted force through the Tel Aviv municipality as well as the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Billboard companies that ran Shen Yun ads received letters from the Chinese embassy asking them to remove the ads.

\nIn spite of these pressures, the performances took place and were extremely successful. All four shows and the 6,000 tickets were sold out as Israel\u2019s cultural and artistic elite in attendance went on record speaking of how moved and inspired they were by Shen Yun.

\nIn 2007, local presenters almost succeeded in booking the Royal Theater for Shen Yun before a last-minute cancellation. While the original explanation was logistical reasons, it was later reported in Danish media that the Chinese Embassy had complained about Shen Yun\u2019s scheduled performance at a meeting with the Danish Foreign Ministry. The performances were canceled shortly after.

Therefore, while it gives the normal party line attacking Shen Yun and Falun Gong, it appears to be written by the esteemed Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, or London Telegraph, to name just a few of the papers who carried this paid insert.

\nThe scale of this blitz is still being uncovered, with media as far as Melbourne Australia and Nashville Tennessee reportedly carrying the identical ad.

\nThe insert is published under the heading China Watch; it appears like a special topic section of the newspaper, with only fine print identifying it as paid content. This media business practice has been called into question for being ethically problematic by publications from The Atlantic<\/a> on the left to Life Site<\/a> on the right.

\nRussia (with the insert titled \u201cRussia Now\u201d) and China are the main sources of such content in an uptick in the production of propaganda for foreign consumption.

The ruling cited threats from the Chinese embassy that Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), the owner of the theater, would incur financial losses in the Chinese market if the Shen Yun shows were allowed to go on.

\nThe Chinese embassy had sent at least two letters to KBS Hall telling them to cancel the Shen Yun performances, saying that the shows are \u201canti-China.\u201d One month prior, in April, local organizers for the Shen Yun show had taken the issue to the district court of Southern Seoul, and the judge considered the case and decided that the arguments for canceling Shen Yun did not hold and that Shen Yun should be allowed to perform.

\nHowever, two days before the shows, the same judge and same court overturned their decision and issued a reverse ruling saying that if the shows were canceled KBS would only need to compensate Shen Yun for the tickets, which number in the thousands. The embassy\u2019s representative tried to persuade the theater manager to cancel the Shen Yun performances. The theater manager, though, told the PRC representative: \u201cYou\u2019re such a big country with big international affairs. Why don\u2019t you deal with those be international issues, and not worry about a show in a small town like ours here.\u201d The theater manager refused to cancel the performances, and they went on as planned.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nOn Feb. 19, 2015, two weeks before Shen Yun\u2019s performances in Chicago, a promotional truck sporting Shen Yun advertising was tampered with. Corrosive chemicals were poured under the car mat, over the brake and accelerator pedals, and the throttle cable underneath the truck had a 1-inch-long knife slash and was heavily corroded.

\nThese tactics are insidious, as they do not cause issues immediately, but over time - as the brake and accelerator corrode, the car may become uncontrollable in the middle of driving.

\nOn Feb. 3, 2015, a burglary took place at the residence of Lucy Guan, the president of the Wisconsin Falun Dafa Association that presents Shen Yun\u2019s performances in Appleton and Milwaukee. The robbery took place in the evening when she was away from home. Police that arrived on the scene called it a \"strange case.\"

\nThe items stolen were her new U.S. passport and three former Chinese passport. \u201cIt\u2019s got everything about where I\u2019ve traveled. It\u2019s got my Chinese name, where I was born, my exact identity,\" Guan told The Epoch Times. She said she believed Chinese agents thought these were of value as the information could be used to threaten her family back home in an attempt to stop her from presenting Shen Yun performances in the U.S.

According to an article in El Mundo<\/a>, the consulate threatened potential compromise to Spain-China relations and called Shen Yun's performers \"illiterate and crazy.\" The Spain performances took place as scheduled and were mostly full. Several Spanish media reported the story.

Belgium, Brussels<\/td>April 2-6, 2014<\/td>March 25-30, 2014<\/td>A week before Shen Yun was scheduled to perform at Brussels' National Theatre, Chinese Communist Party chief Xi Jinping was to arrive at the European capital heading a 200-person delegation. The Chinese embassy at first demanded that the theater cancel the performances, claiming they put Xi Jinping in danger. This attempt was rebuffed, but soon the embassy faced a new problem.
\n
\nTwo blocks from the theater was the Sheraton where Xi and the delegation were staying. Right outside the hotel were four Shen Yun banners, part of a advertising campaign run by BHS Promotion. One of them, in particular, was exactly opposite the hotel entrance. The embassy did not want Xi to see the Shen Yun banners.
\n
\nFirst, Belgian police notified local organizers that the banners, which had been paid for, had to be taken down because of Xi's visit. Following media reports and pressure from the European Parliament, the police backtracked.
\n
\nNext, a Sheraton security guard was caught trying to take down the banner near the entrance. But he stopped after being told the banner was not part of hotel property. Another group, saying they were from the mayor's office, tried removing the banner but left after being questioned further.
\n
\nThen, during Xi's visit, Chinese associated with the embassy, including overseas students, tried lifting PRC and Belgian flags in front of the banner, but could not lift them high enough to block it.

\nOn the second day of the visit, groups of 20-30 Chinese surrounded each of the four banners near the hotel. They used packaging tape to connect their flag sticks to the banner's pole, and then 10 other Chinese stood with flags in a circle around each banner, trying to block view of it whenever Xi's motorcade went by.

According to Mr. Seefeld, the Chinese embassy tried various tactics, starting with promises of bringing Chinese companies to Berlin and ending with threats that he personally would not receive a visa to go to China.

\nMr. Seefeld, who had actually experienced persecution in East Germany, refused all their requests and would not disclose to the embassy specific information they were trying to obtain about the contract with the hosting organization.

At 4am, a security guard watching Shen Yun\u2019s vehicles saw a vehicle approach the Shen Yun Performing Arts prop truck. A man stepped out of the vehicle and went over to the Shen Yun truck\u2019s gas tank and began inserting a hose into it. The security guard approached this man and challenged him: \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d The man quickly hid whatever he was holding and said: \u201cNothing, just servicing the truck\u201d (at 4am! No truck service had been requested). As the guard continued questioning him, the man stepped into his vehicle, where another person was waiting, and they quickly drove away, almost hitting the guard. The guard chased him in his own car and called the police. The guard, and later the police, chased this vehicle for several miles, before the two men abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot in a suburb called Irving. \n<\/td>		August 17, 2012<\/td>Starting in 2007, the NY-based New Tang Dynasty Television has been holding the International Classical Chinese Dance Competition on a mostly annual basis. Shen Yun dancers figure prominently in these competitions and often win top prizes. Some contestants from China have been able to participate, but more often they have been blocked and even arrested.

\nThis year, for the first time, NTD held a preliminary round in Hong Kong. Twenty-six contestants from mainland China were blocked by Beijing. They were either harassed and intimidated in China, or blocked at the border with the semi-autonomous city.

\nDuring the competition, a pro-Chinese Communist Party crowd surrounded the venue, shouting slogans and displaying banners. Witnesses described the scene as \u201ctotally crazy.\u201d

\nThe Chinese Communist Party has not publicly explained why it is sabotaging a traditional Chinese dance competition. It might have to do with a combination of Shen Yun\u2019s dominance at these competitions and a fear performers will try to defect to the U.S. to join the N.Y.-based company.

At least one of Buell\u2019s management personnel received these emails almost every day.

\nIn a repetition of a tactic used in 2010 (New Jersey, Rhode Island, and California), the content of these emails consisted of a misrepresentation of Falun Dafa\u2019s beliefs. The apparent motivation was to scare the theater by portraying Falun Dafa practitioners and Shen Yun fans as zealots.

\nNo one in the Falun Dafa community is known to have sent them. The emails, though daily, were sent from different accounts each time.

Local presenters also said the Embassy had visited the London Coliseum the previous year as well, both before and after the Shen Yun performances, asking the theater to stop renting the venue to Shen Yun. The Coliseum rented the venue anyway and held the performances.

Councilor Cathy Casey is enraged\u2014she posts the letter on her Facebook page and files a formal complaint with the consulate corps.

\nAccording to the hosting organization, the consulate also phoned television stations and told them the performances had been cancelled, instructing them to stop playing Shen Yun advertisements.

\nShen Yun initially was locked out of the theater.But seven hours before the performance, a District Court adjudicated in favor of Shen Yun. The company was let in the theater, and after a breakneck setup completed in less than half the normal time, that night\u2019s performance played to a sell-out crowd.

\nPRC diplomats ended up advertising for Shen Yun, as the incident led to Korean media coverage of the affair and tickets for Shen Yun\u2019s other Korea performances also sold quickly.

\nConsular officials also contacted theaters and local government offices in Shen Yun\u2019s next South Korean destination cities Goyang (Aram Nuri theater) and Daegu (Suseong Artpia theater). Consular representatives asked them to cancel the rental contracts, but in both cities, the requests were spurned as local officials explained that the city has no right to annul a private contract.

\nThe aim appears to be causing the theater to question the integrity of the show and the hosting organization and ultimately canceling the show.According to Tom Liang of the New Brunswick hosting organization, the New Jersey Falun Dafa Association, these emails \"took on a very odd tone, threatening and demanding the theater\u2019s full support for the show. Tickets were to go on sale May 13 for shows on June 3 and 4. On May 31, eight days after ticket went on sale, and with 150 tickets sold over the first two days, a friend of the hosting organization tried purchasing tickets and was told that the show had been canceled and ticket sales halted.

\nThat night, after numerous phone calls and attempts by the hosting organization to obtain an explanation from the theater, the theater sent a fax to the hosting organization saying that the show will not take place due to unexpected technical reasons. One and a half hours after the fax, venue representative Ms. Kerasidou called the hosting organization to confirm that the show was canceled.
\n
\nThe day that the theater stopped selling tickets, a big conference between the Chinese shipping company COSCO and high-ranking Greek officials, including ministers, was held at the theater.
\n
\nDuring the week of the cancellation, the president and CEO of COSCO met with the President of Greece and other top Greek officials over a recently negotiated commercial collaboration project.

Within an hour, theater director Valeria Sircanu arrived at the theater, refused to allow the performers in or meet with them to explain what was going on.

\nA government official revealed that:- the theater director said she received \u201cdaily\u201d visits from the Chinese embassy. A Moldovan Foreign Ministry official met with the theater director and said it was the ministry\u2019s position that the show be canceled.- the theater director was in possession of a letter from the Moldovan Ministry of Culture saying it recommended the show be canceled.

\nOn both days that the show was scheduled to perform, Moldovan television reported on the show\u2019s cancellation and frustration of audience members, who protested outside the theater entrance.
\n
\nSome audience members had traveled from as far as Russia and Belarus, over 30 hours by train.
\n
\nThe theater box office refused to refund tickets, and later put up a sign saying that the theater is not responsible for refunding tickets, and that audience members should actually contact the hosting organization \u2013 whose show was forcibly canceled - representative, Tatiana Chiriac, and displayed her phone number.
\n
\nGiven that there was a signed contract with the theater, the hosting organization is now proceeding with legal measures for financial compensation.
\n
\nBoth the Moldovan Minister of Culture, Boris Focsa, and theater director Ms. Seican said that the PRC ambassador told them Moldova would face financial repercussions if the show were not canceled.
\n
\nLast July, the PRC promised the Moldovan government a $1 billion dollar loan (see Reuters article<\/a>). At the time of the show's cancellation, Moldova is still waiting for the money to come in.

\nIn March, Moldova\u2019s parliament passed a new law on freedom of expression.

The theater is under the Romanian Ministry of Education. Shortly afterwards, the local organizers called the Ministry of Education asking for an answer to the letter of intent. They were told that the request was forwarded to the Ministry of Cultures Foreign Affairs Department and to the Chinese embassy.

\nOn December 15, the hosting organization signed a contract with the theater. In January, the Ministry of Education notified the hosting organization that they are not allowed to lease the venue, without explanation.
\n
\nThe hosting organization tried to meet with officials from the Ministry of Culture but these request were repeatedly denied.
\n
\nOn March 8, European Parliament Member Renate Weber sent an open letter to the Romanian Minister of Education about the case. As a result, the following day Romania\u2019s Prima TV featured a report on the story.

\nThe ministry publicly attributed to the denial to the fact that the show of traditional Chinese culture has nothing to do with education. Romanian Prima TV later mocked this justification by playing footage of various conferences that took place at the theater, including a gypsy summit.

ArsCara was the contractual partner with the theater, Wiener Stadthalle. On Nov. 30, 2009, ArsCara received a letter from the management of Wiener Stadthalle. The letter stated that the theater has \"increasingly intensified cooperation with Chinese contractual partners and strengthened cooperation with Chinese government representatives in Austria.\" The letter continued: \"Since we believe your event has the aforementioned Chinese connection, we would like to ask you to send us a corresponding letter of patronage from the Embassy of the People\u2019s Republic of China in Austria in order to reflect our increased cooperation with our Chinese contractual partners and the representation of the Chinese government in Austria.\"

\nIn ensuing conversations with the theater management, the local presenters learned that there was significant economic pressure from the Chinese Embassy in Vienna on Wiener Stadthalle and its owner, Wien Holding, to cancel the performance. The request of a letter of endorsement from the embassy, which was clearly destined to fail, was simply meant to find an easy way to justify canceling the performance. According to the management of Wiener Stadthalle, the Embassy had already exerted pressure on the theater a year earlier, and so the Chinese Embassy's position on Shen Yun was well-known to them.

Upon inspection, bus service personnel in Montreal said that the slashes were made by a blade. The tire was slashed in such a way that the tire would not go flat right away. Only several layers of rubber were cut, so that the tire would burst after it heated up and expanded while driving. The fact it was the front tire that was slashed is critical, because if the tire burst the bus would lose control - with 50 people on board. The case was reported to Canadian police.

\nThree days later, a tire on the bus of one of Shen Yun\u2019s other companies burst at 1am while traveling on I-40 West between Memphis and Little Rock. This was the first time in four years one of the company\u2019s buses had a burst or flat tire. Two days later, while in Little Rock, the same company\u2019s truck, during a pre-trip inspection, discovered slashes on one of its tires.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The police presumably knew about the ticket purchase through phone-tapping. Three other family members had traveled from Wuhan city in Hubei province to Guangzhou in order to travel from there to Hong Kong together with the rest of the family to watch the show. Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau Chief of Operations Jim Rice said the letter was received in May. Rice said they had never received any letter like it before. It is not clear how the consulate knew that Shen Yun planned to perform in the theater again. Shen Yun had previously performed there in February 2009.

\nBetween Shen Yun\u2019s first and second shows at the National Theater of Bucharest, a PRC embassy representative visited the theater and asked the theater manager to not allow Shen Yun to continue performing. The theater manager refused, saying: \u201cI saw the show. It\u2019s great.\u201d

\nThe article reports that another person said that \u201cThe consulate had invited several Chinese people over for tea,\" said the ticket purchaser. \"One of my friends was included in this group.\"

\nThe consulate told the guests that the show \u201cis super-terrifying, it shows live organ harvesting on the stage, very bloody, you should tell other Chinese people not to attend these performances.\" Not intimidated, the friend reportedly immediately purchased 40 tickets for friends and relatives.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

On March 16, NTDTV was notified of the show\u2019s cancellation. The case was brought to court under the allegation that the show was canceled due to Chinese embassy pressure. NTDTV won the case, but the theater refused to open the doors for the show, and it ended up being canceled.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The letter states: \u201cWe suggest that you could think over your sponsorship and withdraw it.\u201d The letter is replete with the rhetoric of China\u2019s state-run media attacks on Falun Gong and the hosting organization, New Tang Dynasty Television.Following the show, the Washington DC ticket hotline service received multiple phone calls, sometimes only seconds apart from an unknown entity. The caller\u2019s number \u2013 8617911020000 \u2013 is from China.
